Qualitative research can be costly and time-intensive and not all students in Lao PDR have the means to undertake their dream Masters research project. My current research project on Culture, Birth and Parenting in Lao PDR in collaboration with Laos’ University of Health Sciences (UHS) aims to better understand people’s health-seeking behaviours and already existing knowledge and practices in the country. As part of this collaboration, we decided to offer three awards (AUD 1,500 each) to promising Masters’ students who would like to undertake qualitative research relevant to mother-and-child health. This opportunity was announced at the kick-off meeting of our collaborative research project in Vientiane in August. We received four applications with concept notes by the deadline in late September, interviewed applicants in mid October, and soon after offered awards to two applicants. Congratulations to the successful applicants!
